Doors Open up for Web2Mobile Competition Winners

Winners of FinNodes's inaugural Web2Mobile business plan competition (re-named this year as the Mobile Rules! competition) have found that winning the award has opened up doors and connections that they never thought possible. Winners received special access to Nokia's labs and business development staff to help accelerate development of their winning mobile businesses. The winners last year were: mBit.TV (N2N Consulting); Mobile Backstage, SMS Card and TalkPlus.

mBit
The concept of peer-to-peer (P2P) computing has been around for a long time, but Singapore-based N2N Consulting created mBit to take P2P mobile. mBit allows true P2P file sharing over fixed/mobile networks. With mobile phones evolving into powerful multimedia computers, users can now download, manipulate and share large rich media content from other users' mobile devices as well as commercial providers. The mBit solution features automatic resumption of file downloads, a highly distributed network to overcome bandwidth issues and the inclusion of a unique 'signature' for files to combat malware -- all of which are particular headaches for anyone wanting to use P2P file sharing on the move.

Mobile Backstage
Mobile Backstage puts music devotees in touch with other fans, allowing them to post their own multimedia content, download content posted by other users, create avatars on the site, and connect with friends via their mobile phones. Bands, artists and labels can use the Mobile Backstage portal as a way of communicating with fans and staying close to the people who love their music. Artists can include video greetings from their backstage area or tour bus, or participate in live online discussions with fans.

SMS Card
The company's Inproperty solution lets real estate agents stay closer to their clients and potential buyers. Each property for sale is assigned a unique phone number so that when a potential buyer calls the number, the call is automatically routed to the right agent who also sees a pop-up with a link to details of the property and -- if they have rung before -- details about the caller. The solution works both in the office and on mobile devices, to which a summary of the property and caller's details -- specially designed to be compatible with mobile devices -- are automatically routed at the time of the call.

Talk Plus
For those of us who juggle multiple cell phones with multiple numbers and travel multiple time zones, TalkPlus lets you have as many as 10 domestic or international lines all on one mobile phone. Each of those 10 lines can be used to make and receive calls and each includes a personalized voicemail greeting, caller ID, call screening and conference facilities.

Winning the FinNode Web2Mobile competition gave these stellar companies high-level access to mobile industry partners and resources. "As a winner in last year's Web2Mobile competition, N2N Consulting found plenty of doors opening for us across the region," said See Chunyan, CEO of mBit. "(My) company is now extending its reach across the Asian region, including Japan, Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore and China."
