IBM, Hewlett-Packard Learn Mobile TV

Finland has gained a worldwide reputation as a leader in the development of mobile and Internet technologies, so it is no surprise that American information technology companies are taking advantage of a valuable opportunity to join forces with Finnish companies and researchers to commercialize innovative technologies.

Two such companies are IBM and Hewlett-Packard, which are collaborating with Tekes, technology research and public sector organizations and top Finnish companies, such as Nokia and TeliaSonera, in Forum Virium Helsinki. Forum Virium Helsinki fosters an environment of open innovation where a variety of organizations can bring together their expertise to develop new services that consumers or businesses need.

Forum Virium Helsinki is working to transition early digital services into commercialized products in six main areas: traffic, learning, healthcare, retail trade, digital home and multi-channel event media.

IBM and Hewlett-Packard are currently participating in a number of projects. Together they are working with 15 other organizations in Finnish Mobile TV, one of Forum Virium Helsinki’s first projects that consists of a two-year trial of deliver of interactive content and on-the-air television and radio programs to mobile devices. Hewlett-Packard also participated in the development of a photo/video diary service for daycare centers that allowed parents to watch the day-to-day activities of their children.
