OK, so what does FinNode actually do?
Our job is to hook up entrepreneurs, companies and universities from North America and Finland. We act as a match-maker to help U.S. companies and universities find specific intellectual property (IP) to license, ways to gain access to cutting-edge research, partner on in R&D expenses, projects, or even locate available domain experts.
What can FinNode offer to Silicon Valley that we don’t already have?
Did you know that Finland is home to one of the largest CleanTech industries in the world? That Finland has twice as many researchers per capita than the United States? That Finland is one of the top-3 knowledge economies in the world, according to the World Bank? And of course, we love our mobile phones and we are world leaders in that industry, too. That’s why a lot of Silicon Valley companies have already discovered the advantages of partnering with entrepreneurs and universities in Finland. And that’s why FinNode is here to play match-maker.
What successes has FinNode had? Have you helped anyone I know?
We’ve helped IBM, Hewlett-Packard, Honeywell, Microsoft, University of California, Stanford, Atomic, SolomonSalomon, Precor, Digital Chocolate and many, many others. We’ve been in the U.S. for more than two decades.
Does FinNode charge a fee? How do you make money?
By law, we cannot charge consulting fees to U.S. companies. We are funded by the Finnish government and our success is measured by the volume of deals that we set up between U.S. and Finnish companies, by the volume and quality of university cooperation, and by the investment dollars that we bring to the Finnish economy.
How is FinNode any different from the Finnish Ministry of Trade & Industry?
The Ministry is a group that focuses on government legislation, tariffs and other international laws and policies. FinNode works on a local, entrepreneur level in Silicon Valley.
Does FinNode make VC investments in Silicon Valley companies?
No. By law, we cannot make investments in U.S. companies.
Why haven’t I heard about FinNode before?
