What, exactly, do we do? We are funded by the Finnish government and our job is to hook up entrepreneurs, companies and universities on both sides of the Atlantic so that everybody wins. We’ve been doing this for decades and we’ve got some brand-name success stories to boast.
Research and Development
- Help U.S. universities find English-speaking research collaborators and resources who have their own funding for their work. FinNode facilitates mobility of researchers who come to work as visiting scholars to U.S. universities.
- Provide for U.S. researchers a great academic environment in Finland for doing top research. FiDiPro grants are one of the funding instruments targeted for hiring senior researchers to Finland.
- Give access to tens of large scale EU funded R&D projects coordinated by Finnish research groups or companies. FinNode Partners in Finland have direct connections to EU IST research program and all hundreds of research projects with Finnish participation.
- Help Silicon Valley companies find affordable skillful R&D sub-contractors. In Finland, the cost of R&D work for a company is approximately one third of the cost in the USA, based on comparably low engineering salaries and government grants that are available for R&D done in Finland.
- Provide a real-world test environment for mobile products. Finland has total mobile network coverage, experienced users, world's biggest number of senior mobile software engineers and existing test beds.
Business and investments
- Help Silicon Valley companies find available IP for license.
- Connect to a pool of companies with skills, expertice and cost structure unmatched elsewhere. In addition to companies, the government backed research organization VTT with 2400 researchers is a great subcontractor for almost any R&D need.
- Link to companies interested in joint ventures. Joint venture with small and medium size Finnish technology companies is an opportunity to get missing technology pieces to solutions needed to global markets.
- Provide a market penetration point for 80 million people living in the Baltic regions. Finland is part of EU, uses the euro currency and has population fluent in English. Its nearby countries, including Russia, Sweden and Germany, have 80 million consumers in a short distance from Finland.
